Act Five Loser

Act Five Loser (Demo Mix)
Recorded by Vent (Peter, Gerald, David, Mike, Darren) in April 2005 for our first demo. Vaguely brit-pop in style.

Fashion In Denim

Fashion In Denim (Solo Mix)
Recorded and mixed by Peter (with engineering by Gerald) before the band was formed. The Solo Mix was made by recording instruments and vocal takes one at a time and then mixing them together and adding effects to give the song its dark atmosphere. This was the first recorded mix of the song.

I, Blemish

I, Blemish (Solo Mix)
Recorded and mixed by Peter (with engineering by Gerald) before the band was formed. The Solo Mix tries to keep a raw quality by minimising the use of effects and foregoing much of the patching and cleaning of the recordings. This was the first recorded mix of the song.

Just Cruisin'

Just Cruisin' (Solo Mix)
Recorded and mixed by Peter (with engineering by Gerald) before the band was formed. The Solo Mix was the version recorded for use in the soundtrack of The Gift (though the film was never released). This version is melancholic yet uplifting, providing a smooth, sweet melody that complements the preoccupation often experienced in reflecting on what has been left behind and what may be around the corner. This was the first recorded mix of the song.

Orbital

Orbital (Demo Mix)
Recorded by Vent (Peter, Gerald, David, Mike, Darren) in April 2005 for our first demo. The tune was borrowed from an earlier, unreleased song and a new, darker set of lyrics was written.

Scare City

Scare City (Solo Mix)
Recorded and mixed by Peter (with engineering by Gerald) before the band was formed. The Solo Mix attempted to mimic a live performance by a rock band, complete with the singer clearing his throat and the audience whistling, cheering and screaming. This was related to the fact that the song is all about fame, art and commercialism. This was the first recorded mix of the song.

Secrecy

Secrecy (Solo Mix)
Recorded and mixed by Peter (with engineering by Gerald) before the band was formed. The Solo Mix of this ballad was an attempt to make a "big" sound comprising many overlapping textures. This was the first recorded mix of the song.

Taken At The Flood

Taken At The Flood (Demo Mix)
Recorded by Vent (Peter, Gerald, David, Mike, Darren) in April 2005 for our first demo. A big, catchy rock song!

Taken At The Flood (Draft Mix)
A draft recording made by Peter while the song was still being written; uses only vocals and a couple of guitar parts. As you can hear, the choruses and the ending had not been written at this point, so the song structure is unfinished, and you also receive the rare treat of listening to a badly hummed rendition of the vocal melody during the unfinished parts.
